Near white and flashy. This coin has a strongly repunched date to the West of the original date.
Quite impressive, with a fair bit of the original date still visible to
the left of the main date. This variety is listed as variety 1 in the
Fletcher reference on Shield nickels and listed as variety 3 in Breen's
Proof coinage book. A scarce date among business strikes, the 1879 sells
for over $200 in Good-4 condition.
